Our beautiful exhibit space, located in a historic railroad substation, features an exiting new exhibit, a partnership with the Coeur d'Alene Tribe. Aligned with a series of activities, events, and seminars, this program aims to bring the heritage, contemporary life, and bright future of the Coeur d'Alene and American Indian people to life. Interactive activities for younger visitors to the institute are on-hand. Our space is available for use by other organizations or groups for meetings, conferences, receptions, and more; contact us to learn more.
Also, during a trip to the institute you can visit our media room, a cozy setting to watch one of the films from our library, including the award-winning documentary, "The Color of Conscience," which chronicles the rise and fall of the Aryan Nation in northern Idaho. The institute is open Monday through Friday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. We can be available at other times for special tours, too -- contact us via email or 208-292-2359 to learn more.
UPCOMING EVENTS AT HREI
Wednesday, May 8 & May 15, 5 - 6 pm: HREI Book Club Meeting
Enjoy great literature, whether its fiction, nonfiction or poetry? Interested in reading about issues that matter in the world, and exploring other cultures and perspectives? Want to hear authors read from and discuss their work? Starting May 8, the HREI Book Club is reading "In the Kingdom of Men," Kim Barnes' new novel about a young woman living in 1960s' Saudi Arabia. Book club members will have a chance to meet the author -- a 5:30 light dinner and discussion -- ahead of her May 17, 7 p.m. reading at the institute! New members are always welcome. We're a low-key group interested in good books and great discussion. Contact Brian at 208-292-2359 or bkeenan@hrei.org for more information. Or just stop by!
Friday, May 17, 7 pm: Visiting Author Kim Barnes at HREI
Join us at HREI for a reading by visiting author Kim Barnes. Barnes is the author of the acclaimed new novel, "In the Kingdom of Men," which has been called a "mesmerizing novel," with "a heroine for the ages." This is a wonderful chance to hear a great talent and voice in Idaho. For more information, contact the institute at 208-292-2359 or bkeenan@hrei.org.
