Norma Peone was born in Nespelem, Washington. She received her Bachelor degree in Interdisciplinary Studies from Lewis and Clark State College in Idaho. In 1977, Ms. Peone left the Spokane Indian reservation after 25 years and moved to the Coeur d'Alene Tribe reservation. Ms. Peone has been a member of the Coeur d'Alene Tribal Council for 21 years and currently serves as their Secretary/Treasurer. In 1999, she was elected as their first female Vice Chairwoman.
Ms. Peone has served on the board of directors of the Benewah Medical Center, Northwest Portland Area Indian Health, Healing Lodge of the Seven Nations, Affiliated Tribes of Northwest Indian, and the National Congress of American Indians. She is the Coordinator for the Higher Education program, and has served as TERO Director, Youth Counselor, and Enrollment Officer. Ms. Peone plans to continue to use her experience and education for the betterment of the Coeur d'Alene Tribe.
